    Espresso Machines

    The first steam pressure based espresso machine was patented in Italy in 1901 and commercially distributed in 1903 throughout Europe.  Significant improvements from 1948 to 1960 evolved in the development of a spring piston to exact pressure on coffee grounds to an electric pump to supply pressure.  Further advances continue today as technology and consumer demand grows.

    Pizza and Pasta: Timeless Favorites

    There are different versions of the origin of pizza and pasta. History has proven the adaptation, modernization, and longevity of these dishes will remain part of the foodservice industry’s popular product offering.

    The first known pizza shop was the Port 'Alba in Naples, which opened in 1830 and is still open today. The origin of modern pizza as we know it was prepared in 1889 by Raffaele Esposito of Naples for King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Italy. In North America, Gennaro Lombardi opened the first pizzeria in 1905 in New York City.

    Pasta is debated to be brought by Marco Polo from his travels in the Far East. Whether or not this is singularly true, pasta will continue to be part of our dietary staple.
